Job Description:

The Medical/Surgical/ICU/Orthopedics Manger is responsible for the day to day operations of the Medical/Surgical, Orthopedic, and Intensive Care units. The Manager has 24 hour accountability for staffing the unit.  The Manager is responsible for the hiring of employees for their areas, conducting performance evaluations, and dismissal when appropriate.  The Manger is responsible for communicating defined expectations to the staff and providing or developing the support, skill set and competencies needed for the roles.  The Manager is responsible for quality assurance and improvement activities which ensure the best care and service experience for the patients served.  The Manger also develops processes to monitor and ensure compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory requirements.  Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Patient Care Services, the Manger performs activities that result in staff development and identifying the strengths of the staff. The Manager provides coaching, mentoring, and staff recognition.  The Manger is responsible for ensuring the department is staffed in accordance with established guidelines, with quality and patient safety expectations in mind.

Preferred Skills:

  • The Medical Surgical Manager shall possess or be actively enrolled (currently taking courses) in a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) program.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or another health related field is preferred. 
  • The Manager shall be CPR, ACLS, and NRP certified within in one year of hire and must maintain this certification while in this role.    
  • One to Three years of progressive leadership/management experience is required and three to five years of progressive management experience is preferred.
