Taking a blood pressure, giving a shot to an orange, and inserting an IV in a teaching mannequin are just a few of the experiences Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) has created to attract young minds to choose a career in healthcare.
The Club Scrub Program at CCH gives students the hands-on experience they need to make an educated decision about choosing a career in healthcare.
The program, initially offered to public and private school Columbus seventh and eighth grade students (including Columbus Middle School, St. Jerome School and Zion Lutheran School), is a six session program offered over the course of six months during the school year. Each session is one-hour long (3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.) after school. Each Club Scrub group is limited to eight students. The students receive hands-on experience in six different areas.
Each session is led by a physician or CCH staff member who specializes in the particular career being spotlighted for that day. A one-day Club Scrub summer camp is also offered to seventh and eighth grade students in our service area outside of the Columbus School District.
Youth interested in participating in Club Scrub at CCH can contact their guidance counselor or science teacher for more information. Club Scrub registration forms may also be obtained from the CCH Education Department by calling (920) 623-1276.
